Traveling Directions to DBIS/IFI Göttingen
Overview

here. Go for "Nordbereich"
(Northern Campus). The red building in the lower left is the Geographics Building
(you can also use the pulldown menu and select "Geowissenschaften und Geographie");
the Institute for Informatics has been built in 2008 just east of it.
You can get there either by car of by bus (details see below), reaching the
parking lots at "Goldschmidtstrasse". From there, turn right/south
towards the main road/trees/creek, pass below the Georgraphy Building,
turn left, walk just between the Geo building and the creek alongside
the building, at the end around the building, and reach the main entry.
By Car:
Exit the Motorway A7 at "Göttingen Nord" direction "B27, Braunlage".
Stay on B27 until a large crossing with traffic lights, cross it.
Pass two smaller
crossings with traffic lights (take care of radar controls for speed
limit and red light) turn right after the second one, just before the
bridge. It turns you up and left, reaching the "Robert Koch Strasse".
Turn left, cross the bridge, and take the first lane to the right into
the University's campus - Goldschmidtstrasse.
By public transport:
Goettingen is 2hrs by train from Frankfurt Airport, and about 1hr from
Hannover airport.
Leave the train station towards the city (east side, main building).
- turn left and take a taxi to "Universität Nordbereich".
Should be around 8-10 Euro.
- Alternatively: turn right after leaving the train station and
go to the bus stop area. Take one of the following
lines (takes <15 minutes):
- 8 (slot "D", every 15 min; leave at xx:07, xx:22, xx:37, xx:52),
12 (slot "D" every 30 min; leave at xx:03, xx:33):
leave at Goldschmidtstrasse, which stops just outside of the campus.
Turn right (= east) to enter the campus.
- 10 (Slot "A", every 30 min; xx:01, xx:31, takes 20 mins;
during summer holiday all 60 mins, xx:01):
leave at "Krankenhaus Weende". This
line will drop you on the main road "An der Lutter". Just cross it,
continue 200m along the main road (towards east), take the small
bridge over the creek, and the institute is just to the right.
- from the Downtown (the stops "Groner Tor" or "Weender Strasse
(Ost)" are reachable in some minutes walk from the station)
you can also take the 5 (every 30 min; "Groner Tor": xx:18, xx:48;
"Weender Str. (Ost)": xx:26, xx:56, takes 13 mins)
and leave at Goldschmidtstrasse or Tammannstrasse (the latter is
already inside the campus).
